🎮 Controller & Steam Deck Setup
If your controller is not responding or button prompts do not appear:
- Open Steam Library > Right-click How to Fish > Select Properties.
- Navigate to the Controller tab on the left sidebar.
- Change "Override for How to Fish" to Enable Steam Input.
- Restart the game — Steam will now emulate native XInput controls with full analog stick support.
How to Fish lists full controller support, covering Xbox pads and PlayStation DualShock / DualSense controllers. As of Patch 1.0.8, PlayStation controller glyphs render correctly, and the game is fully Steam Deck Verified (Patch 1.0.11, September 1, 2026).
⚙️ Aim, Sprint & Look Settings (Patch 1.0.11)
Patch 1.0.11 (September 1, 2026) added several accessibility and comfort toggles. Open Settings to switch any of the following from hold-to-hold to a single tap:
- Toggle aim — aim stays active until you press again.
- Toggle sprint — sprint stays on until you press again.
- Hold to attack — alternative to the default tap-to-attack.
- Toggle nametags — show or hide player name tags.
Patch 1.0.5 (August 22, 2026) also added the ability to invert the X and Y look axes independently.
🌐 Languages & Platforms
How to Fish ships with full audio support in 16 languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Turkish, Swedish, Italian and Ukrainian. On platform, the game is a Windows-only Steam release, and since Patch 1.0.11 it is also playable through GeForce NOW.
