🚀 About the Game & Difficulty Settings

How to Fish is a 1–4 player physics-based fishing simulator by Dazed Games, released on Steam on August 20, 2026 at $7.99 (with a 38% launch discount for the first week). It quickly became a hit — the developers confirmed 1 million players within two days of release. Stranded after a drinking-and-boating crash, you fish, kill and sell fish, buy better gear, and fight bosses to unlock new islands.

New to the chaos? Patch 1.0.9 (August 24, 2026) added selectable difficulty from the main menu or in-game:

Easy: every creature has 25% less health and deals 50% less damage — great for learning the loops.
Normal (default): the original balance.
Hard: every creature has 25% more health and deals 25% more damage.

🎣 Catching Creatures

Don't expect a relaxing time. To fish in this game:

Hold right-click to charge your line, and release to cast.
Hold left-click when you catch something, then right-click to reel it in.
Crucial step: Once reeled in, you must kill the creature (punch it, stab it, or shoot it) before it escapes back into the water!

If you knock a creature out but fail to finish it off, seagulls WILL steal it. Keep a weapon handy at all times.

🔥 Hunger & the Grill

You will starve to death if you don't eat. Keep an eye on your hunger meter!

Grillmaster: Drop caught fish onto the barbecue trap/grill to cook them.
Cooked fish provide more nourishment and sell for more money.
Be careful not to overcook! Eating a burnt creature will unlock the "Yummy in my tummy" achievement but won't do your health any favors.

Cooked fish = higher sell price AND more hunger refill. Always cook before selling.

🕊️ Beware of Seagulls

If you die or leave fish lying around, seagulls will swoop in.

If you get knocked down, a seagull might carry you off (unlocking the "Let me go" achievement), forcing your friends to revive you or rescue you.
You can fight back using firearms or even dynamite to secure the "Everyone's dream" achievement!

⛵ Upgrading Your Boat

Your ultimate goal is to escape the island. To do this, you need to upgrade your boat's engine.

Sell fish to the NPC to earn cash.
Buy the first engine upgrade to get the "Getting an upgrade" achievement.
Keep grinding until you can afford the best engine ("I am speed" achievement) to eventually finish the game ("We are so back").

How to Cook Fish & Eat (Hunger Management)

If your hunger bar reaches zero, your character collapses and loses inventory. Follow these exact steps to cook and eat:

Catch Any Fish: Reel in a minnow or mackerel from shore.
Place on the Grill / Campfire: Hold the raw fish and drop it directly onto the campfire grill.
Wait for Sizzle Sound: Watch the fish change texture from raw to golden brown. Cooking raises its sell value up to 1.5x at the sweet spot — but leave it too long and it burns (value drops to $0).
Pick Up & Press Eat: Interact with the cooked fish to consume it instantly and refill your stamina/hunger bar!

Pro Tip: The grill only works on fish, bait, and other sellable food items. Overcooking any item until it is charred black destroys its value entirely, so pull it off at the golden-brown sweet spot.
