Progression
Boss Fights & Island Progression
Each island gates your progress behind a major boss encounter. Below is the exact sequence: how to summon each boss, what bait you need, and the safest way to take them down without losing your hard-earned loot to thieving seagulls.
π‘ Island 3 β The Pufferfish & Carrot Bait
The Pufferfish is a major progression blocker. Here is exactly how to summon and defeat it:
- How to get Carrot Bait: You cannot buy this. You must catch a rare/endangered fish and hand it over to the Island 3 NPC. In return, he will give you the Carrot Bait.
- Summoning: Equip the Carrot Bait and cast your line. Be prepared, because the Pufferfish boss will immediately spawn. It rolls around like a massive beach ball, trying to crush you.
- Combat Tactic: Use the island's trees or cabin roofs for cover. Have your friends focus fire with SMGs or Assault Rifles.
- What to do After Pufferfish: When defeated, it drops chunks of meat, but do not sell everything! You must locate the Pufferfish Tail / Boss Trophy (a bone-exposed remnant) and bring it back to the NPC to unlock the next island coordinates. Watch out β seagulls will try to steal the tail!
Seagulls WILL try to steal the Pufferfish Tail as you carry it back. Have a friend guard the trophy, or sprint directly to the NPC.
π¦ The Shark (Military Event)
The shark can randomly ambush players in the water, but defeating its true boss form requires a specific event.
- Wait for the military radio event stating they "located a big creature."
- This triggers the Shark Boss fight. You need high-tier weapons (like the purple SMG) to burst it down.
- Defeating this boss unlocks the "Deadliest catch" achievement.
π¦ The Terrorizing Bird
A massive bird will occasionally attack, terrorizing the scared islanders. You must defend them!
- Bring lots of ammo and use the boat for cover. Defeating it unlocks the "Terrorizing bird" achievement.
- Secret: If you exploit physics and let the bird or seagulls lift your boat into the sky, you'll unlock the "I'm the bird now" achievement.
The "I'm the bird now" achievement is purely physics-driven β let the bird grab an edge of your boat and lift. Best attempted solo so friends don't accidentally shoot it down.
πͺ± Island 2 β Leech Bait
On Island 2, progression relies on finding Leech Bait.
- Leeches spawn on the ground, but their spawn rate can be buggy in multiplayer. Gather them quickly to craft quest bait before moving on.
