Carrot Bait Guide

Why Carrot Bait Is Special

In the How to Fish game, the Carrot Bait is the most elusive and vital quest item on Island 3. Unlike leech bait (which you pick up off the ground) or standard bait (which you start with), Carrot Bait cannot be bought or foraged. It requires a specific trade sequence to obtain.

How to Get Carrot Bait: Trade Rare/Endangered Fish on Island 3

When you reach Island 3, you'll find an NPC who is looking for very specific wildlife. To get the Carrot Bait, you must:

  • Equip a good rod (check out our rod upgrades guide) and fish in the deep waters around Island 3.
  • Catch a rare or endangered fish.
  • DO NOT SELL IT! Take the endangered fish directly to the NPC on Island 3.
  • The NPC will trade you the Carrot Bait in exchange for the fish.

Which Fish Bite Carrot Bait

Carrot Bait is designed for one specific monster. While it technically functions as bait, using it on normal fish is a massive waste of time and effort. Its true purpose is to trigger the ultimate encounter of Island 3.

Carrot Bait & the Pufferfish Boss

Once you have the Carrot Bait, equip it and cast your line. Be fully prepared with SMGs and Assault Rifles, because this bait is guaranteed to summon the pufferfish boss. The boss will spawn almost immediately upon the bait hitting the water.
